Abstract of the Body

In my photographic series "Abstract of the Body," I explore the human form through a lens inspired by Ivon Hitchens' late paintings, particularly his "Study of two figures dancing together." My work translates Hitchens' structured dissection of subjects into the photographic medium, creating fragmentary images that offer multiple viewpoints and overlapping planes.

Using a simplified colour palette, I focus on the interplay between light, colour, and the human form. My goal is not to document the body's structure but to create an illusion through carefully orchestrated colour systems and manipulating light. By concentrating on the body's density at the image's core, I experiment with how photography can transform our perception of the human figure.

Central to this series is the concept of movement and impermanence. Through a special filter I created for the lens, I challenge the traditionally static nature of photography, offering alternatives to the permanence often associated with visual art. Each image captures a moment of transition, blurring the lines between stillness and motion.

This work invites viewers to reconsider their understanding of the human form, presenting it as a fluid, ever-changing entity. By embracing the ephemeral qualities of light and movement, I aim to create photographs that exist in a space between abstraction and representation, echoing the fleeting nature of our physical existence.
